| Description |
Learn to make garden ornaments, pots, planters, pavers with Hypertufa, a material composed of cement, sand and peat moss. In this class you’ll learn how to mix the ingredients, cast a planter and take home your planter, ideas, techniques, and instructions to make more forms at home. |

Dust mask, dishwashing gloves, safety glasses, heavy duty or plastic shoe box, or a round empty plastic hanging basket, plastic dish pan and a plastic garbage bag. Wear old clothes. |

| About the Artist |
Judy Starnes is a self-taught artist with a background in cloth doll making and assemblage. After retirement, she finally had time to become a gardener. In recent years she discovered the joys and unlimited use of making her own Hypertufa containers and leaf castings for the yard and garden. Judy has made many forms and taught others to mix and make their own planters and garden art. |

| Description |
Please join us for our self-guided figure drawing class. As you may know, life drawing is the cornerstone of artistic training, and is popular with amateur as well as professional artists. The figure presents many technical problems – form, structure and foreshortening. This is a wonderful opportunity for training and practicing your skills. The class will commence with some quick warm-up sketches. Then, some longer five to fifteen minute poses. You'll soon learn how much detail you can include for different length poses. This class will be moderated by Jack Hoyle. |

| About the Artist |
Jack Hoyle studied at UNC Charlotte and has his BA degree in art. Jack lives in Shelby, North Carolina. His company, FredJack Studios, provides original art, covers and interior art for books, children’s books, murals, and custom commission work. |

Class Cancellations/Refund Policy
The Arts Council reserves the right to cancel a class if a minimum enrollment is not attained. In such instances, previously paid fees will be fully refunded.
Students who need to withdraw from any class should contact the Arts Council at the earliest time possible. You will receive a refund, less $10.00 service charge per class only when notice is received within a minimum of four (4) before the first class meeting. |

Calling All Artists
Are you interested in teaching art classes at the Cleveland County Arts Council in Shelby, NC?
We are looking for artists interested in teaching art to children or adults. Do you have a fun project, skill or an art form you would like teach others?
The Cleveland County Arts Council offers you the opportunity to design your own class, hours, description and yes, even the price.
The Arts Council will advertise your class on our website, newspaper, e-mail, Facebook, and newsletter, provide the classroom, register students and handle the financial transactions for only $15 - 20.00 per student.
We’d like to offer evening classes during the week and Saturday classes during the year. If you are interested and want us to consider your class, please complete the Instructor Interest Form and submit to Cleveland Arts Council, 111 S. Washington Street, Shelby, NC 28150.
Also, please include a short biography, description of your art and teaching experience and a list of references and telephone numbers.
