Do you use your oven for storage because you’re not sure how to cook anything that doesn’t use a microwave? Not sure how to make a good impression at that job interview? Have no idea what a 401(k) is - much less how to make one work for you?

If you’re living on your own but feel that there’s a lot you don’t know how to do, this is the one-day course for you!

In a single day, our trio of experienced life hackers will teach you:

• Interview skills - how to prepare, stand out, and score points with the interviewer even after the interview is over!

• Navigating work benefits - renter’s insurance, tax/withholding issues, health insurance coverage and retirement benefits. What they are, what you need, and how to figure that out!

• We’ll also teach you a few tricks about money, budgets, and (weather cooperating) basic car maintenance.

Jewelry Making:

An Introduction to

Cold Connections

May 13th & 15th
5pm - 8pm

Tina Hinojosa

$65

Description

A cold connection is a method of joining metal and other objects without soldering. It is an economical way to break into jewelry making, and it is sometimes necessary when connecting to objects made of materials which cannot be exposed to the extreme heat of soldering. Through demonstration and hands-on activities, participants will experiment with different connection methods. This course is an excellent place for complete beginners to start,

because we will be also be covering how to prepare, saw, pierce, file, sand, and finish metals and you will be introduced to several jewelry tools. Experience with these basic activities can meaningfully contribute to understanding more advanced topics. Materials will be provided to create a variety of sample-sized objects which can be used in future jewelry projects. Tools will be available for use during class, but feel free to bring some of your favorite tools. Please bring a bag lunch. These activities tend to produce a bit of dust and metal shavings, so re-sealable containers for food and drink are recommended.

About the Artist

Brenda Holt decided to try her luck in stained glass art in 1990. After 6 weeks of attending stained glass class in Charlotte, NC her instructor said to be sure not to quit her day job because stained glass art was certainly not her niche. Yes, there was evidence that there were no artistic skills in her body. Yet, she did not give up and continued to practice whenever the time allowed. But in 2001, she found herself with more time to explore these crafty abilities due to a job loss. By September of that year, she was devoting at least 20 hours each week to learning the intricacy of this art form. In 2005, Brenda began to teach stained glass classes to groups and individuals along with creating/designing stained glasspanels for cabinet doors, exterior windows, gardens, signs, and ethnic art as commissioned work. Today, Brenda has quite a few stained glass pieces placed in art galleries, churches, and homes throughout the United States and is excited to pass these skills along to you!
