Bob Ross Painting Class

June 21 OR July 26, 10:30am - 2:00pm

Step into the world of color and creativity with certified Bob Ross Instructor Pat Hitchcock. Pat provides step-by-step, hands-on instruction. This is a  delightful and relaxing oil painting class inspired by the timeless charm of Bob Ross himself. Unleash your inner artist as you master the iconic brushstrokes that bring happy little trees, majestic mountains, and peaceful landscapes to life.  Learn about and use the unique wet-on-wet oil painting technique made famous by Bob Ross. At the end of the class, you will have a completed painting to take with you.  Whether you are a seasoned painter or picking up a brush for the first time, this hands-on workshop promises joy, inspiration, and a canvas full of possibilities. All supplies are provided. For ages 12+. 

Instructor: Pat Hitchcock started painting at the age of 16, and teaching at the age of 28. She is certified in the Bob Ross Techniques of Landscapes, Floral, and Wildlife. Hitchcock taught at St. Johns River Community College in St. Augustine, Florida from 1998 until 2004, and alsoat The Bob Ross Workshop in New Smyrna Beach, Florida from 2000 until 2006. She has had additional teach stints in New Zealand, Taipa City, Tiawan, and throughout the southeastern United States. Hitchcock is married and lives in Mill Spring, NC with her husband Frankie. They have two daughters and five grandchildren.

Stained Glass Class

August 4, 11, 18, and 25, 12pm - 3pm

Students will learn to cut glass, copper foil, grind, and solder each individual piece.

The cost of the class due when you sign up is $160.  You can use our paypal button, call the Arts Council, or stop by to sign up and pay. This is a 4 day class (August 4, 11, 18, 25). There is also an additional supply fee of $60 per person and will be due on the first day of class to the instructor. Students must bring safety glasses, apron, and wear closed toed shoes. NO SANDALS please. NOTE:  No refunds will be allowed for missed classes.  It is important that all students will be able to attend all the classes due to the class structure.

Jewelry Making 101

Participants will learn the basics of jewelry making as the instructor walks them through making a bracelet and a pair of earrings to take home. Participants will have 3 design options to choose from. All materials will be provided. Call 704-484-2787 to register today!

Meet the instructor, Lydia Sargent! Lydia was born in Gastonia and has lived there her entire life. After graduating from UNCG in 1973, she taught third and fourth grade in Gaston County for 34 years. After retiring in 2008, Lydia continued working in the school system as an interim and substitute teacher. She also worked at Gaston College for 5 years as a GED Examiner. Lydia's interest in jewelry led her to taking classes at Michael’s on jewelry making. She has continued to learn the art of jewelry making and has given away many pieces of jewelry to family and friends. Lydia finds it very enjoyable to create something of beauty for people to wear. You can find Lydia’s work displayed at the Southern Arts Society in Kings Mountain, Wild and Whimsey in Gastonia, and coming soon to the Cleveland County Arts Council. In addition, Lydia has also been commissioned to make a necklace, bracelet, and earrings for the State President of Alpha DeltaKappa.

Barn Quilt Painting Class

October 25, 11am - 3pm

We will paint a beautiful Barn Quilt, design of your choice, on a weatherproof, 2’ x 2’ board. Perfect decoration for your home or to give as a gift!
All Supplies are furnished by the instructor.

Instructor: ​Carol Mitchell has been teaching barn quilt painting since 2016. She has painted for over 50 years.

Cost: $85 includes all supplies
What to Bring:
Wear old clothes, bring an empty jar (with lid) to take home varnish.
